Director Biography
Laila Blue is a Calgary-based female BIPOC filmmaker and storyteller, of Algonquin and Indo-Fijian heritage, whose work is rooted in authenticity, cultural depth, and raising awareness about pressing social issues. She is known for her acting roles in Cancer Szn (BITS 2025) and The Ropes (Fiber1TV S1EP4).
Her directorial debut, FLOW, is a nightmare-fuel mixed-media short combining 2D animation, stop-motion, and live action. The film explores the horrifying truths behind the skincare industry and the extremes consumers endure to meet societal standards of beauty, with underlying themes of consumerism and industry manipulation. Created on a micro-budget of $1,000 CAD, FLOW showcases Laila’s resourceful and bold storytelling voice.
She is currently developing Boxed In, a feature-length psychological thriller exploring grief, trauma, and social injustice, produced alongside Edmon Rotea (Skinamarink) and starring Jordan Sledz (The Last of Us). Boxed In was selected for Reelwolds Emerging 20 (E20) program, showing her work is gaining recognition from major industry initiatives.
