Director Biography

Rulan is a screenwriter, director, and music creative director from Jeddah. She began her career in writing and production in 2016, co-writing the action/thriller series “Doon” for Viu. Her notable works include the series “Bashar” (acquired by Netflix), “Alayla” (SBC, 2019), and the Netflix original “Whispers” (2019), and head writer of “Mali Shogul Belsoug” dramedy series on SBC Ramadan 21 / Shahid. Co-writer of “Fates Hotel” Thriller/Action series on Shahid. She co-directed and wrote the award-winning short film “The Wishlist” and served as head Writer for “Chromosome” (SBC, Ramadan 2021). Rulan has also worked on “Takki” Series S3 for Netflix and the feature film “ABD” which won multiple awards including Best Feature Film at the Saudi 9th Film Festival.

She developed the psychological thriller series “The Last Session” with USC’s Memi Program and is currently working on “The Silent City” with Netflix and NYFA. She was the senior developer of several other series, such as “Akher Riyal” on Shahid, co-writer of “Sukar Sada” Ramadan 2022 on the Saudi Channel and now on Shahid. As a creative director, she collaborates with prominent Saudi artists and was involved in the non-profit organization Sunflower Seed which supports Saudi female filmmakers. From 2020 to 2023 as Director of the operation and KSA Director of Culture, Rulan has run Righters House, a writing hub offering free workshops to emerging writers. Today, Righters House is a production house that helps write and produce films for upcoming and emerging filmmakers from the region. She was selected and completed the elite program IVLP by the US to boost the economy through art and filmmaking for the year 2023.
